It is Monday again and everyone gets on with the hustle and bustle of the day just to make a living and live a “fulfilled life”.
Education has stopped to be an institution for developing knowledge, students only go to school these days only to get grades and have their certificate to continue the hustle and bustle of each day, but then I ask in a country like Nigeria, Is Education still the key?
A Country which her youth spends 7 years in school to study a 4-year course because of strike!
A Country whose Educational background is not the criteria to get job!!
A Country with intelligent minds governed by Leaders with Forged or No Certificate.
A Country where you can’t get good Education if you are poor.
I remember my friends gaining admission before I did in the year 2011 to study at LAUTECH, as a young kid I felt the jealousy but I had to move on and pass that hurdle in my life. He’s still in LAUTECH with no scheduled or feasible time to graduate but we have Governorship aspirants springing up from the states concerned [Osun and Oyo].
We have a Governorship aspirant that didn’t pass any subject during his SSCE Exam which is from Osun, there’s an Ex-Governor with a barren regime contesting to run for the second term in Oyo also. Sometimes I sit and wonder if we ever deserved to have unworthy leaders like this.
After struggle to graduate with a good grade and continue Parent Enhanced Program for the Youth [NYSC], their kids are doing the worst things in school and coming out with poor grades but they have a job waiting for them if they are willing to pick it up.
I don’t see Education as a Key anymore, I see it as a diversion and distraction in my dear Country, students no longer learn, they are all entrepreneurs selling something in each class.
If Education is still the key in Nigeria, then we have no success door to open it with.
