X-Men’s director and producer Simon Kinberg has revealed who he would like to play the next Wolverine.
Now that Hugh Jackman has retired from his iconic role, the franchise will be needing a new candidate to take on the superhero part.
Teasing potential contenders, Kinberg shared with GamesRadar his top list of actors, which include a couple of big British names. “It’s a very hard question to answer, because there are only a few actors in the history of comic book movies who are so indelibly connected to their character, that it’s hard to imagine anyone else playing the role,” he explained.
“I can’t imagine anybody but Hugh Jackman playing it… but if I think about actors who are just really interesting, and that I’d love to work with, Tom Hardy comes to mind; Richard Madden I think is a great actor.” Sophie Turner, who stars as Jean Grey in the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix, joined the conversation as well, revealing her dream casting name for the next Wolverine.
“Well, I know they’re kind of the same age, but I think Keanu Reeves would be a good Wolverine,” she admitted. “I love me some Keanu Reeves.” Asked if she would consider pitching her husband Joe Jonas for the part, Turner revealed: “He always says that to me. He’s like, ‘I’d be a great young Wolverine’. I’m like, ‘I’m not going to pitch you for this, that’d be so weird!'”
However, she agreed that her husband could be a good fit for the role, adding: “He would be actually, he’s hairy enough.”
