Sevilla face Jose Mourinho’s Roma in the 2022/23 Europa League final in what was a fascinating showdown at Budapest.
Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side extended their record to seven combined UEFA Cup/Europa League titles in Budapest, giving Mourinho his first loss in six European Championship final.
The veteran Portuguese coach has decades of experience at the highest level with Champions League wins at Porto and Inter Milan.
Mourinho also won the UEFA Cup at Porto, the Europa League during his time at Manchester United, and he clinched the first Europa Conference League title with Roma last season.
Roma took the lead in the match through a deftly executed shot by Paulo Dybala in the first half, giving his team a lead into the break.
The second half resumed with a lot of spark from Sevilla, which helped them grab an equalizer through a Mancini own goal. The defender turned the ball into the back of his own net from a Jesus Navas cross.
The game went into extra time and finally penalty. Roma lost two of their penalties taken by Ibanez and Mancini, while Montiel converted from the spot after a second trial to hand Sevilla the Europa trophy.
