The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has declared May 30, this year as a Remembrance Day for those they called Biafrans who died in the course of the agitation for an independent state of Biafra.
To this end, the pro-Biafra group has urged its members to ensure there will be no movement of people and vehicles in Igbo land on the said day.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Emma Powerful and made available to Tribune Online in Enugu, the group said that they would not be discouraged by the Federal High Court bail ruling of April 25, 2017, stressing that the Remembrance Day will be a priority to every of its member.
Mr Powerful said, “Biafrans, we should not be discouraged by the court ruling on April 25, 2017 rather we focus on the May 30, 2017 Remembrance Day, which will be a priority to every IPOB member, to ensure that no movement of any sort both human and vehicular across Biafraland on that very day.”
“The Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB and its leadership worldwide thank Biafrans, friends of Biafra and lovers of Biafra all over the world, Children, men, women and elders of Biafraland who contributed immensely in one way or the other both spiritually and physically to stood on the side of our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and others detained illegally along with him since almost two years now.
“Whether bail conditions place on our leader’s release was good or not it doesn’t matter we must make sure we shut down the areas occupied by Biafrans for the remembrance and honour of our heroes and heroines who laid down their lives during the genocidal war orchestrated by British Government through the former military ruler Rtd Major General Yakubu Gowon against the people of Biafra between 1967 and 1970.
“Our leader is in high spirit since his arrest in 2015 and we cannot afford to be dampened our spirits towards the liberation of Biafra because of conditions attached to the release of our supreme leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu by justice Binta Nyako of Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, we must continue because the restoration of ancient nation of Biafra is nearer the an expected, therefore every hand must be on deck to restore Biafra for our children, grandchildren and unborn children.
“We are also aware that the APC Government led Major General Muhammadu Buhari conspired with some politicians in Biafraland who are much afraid of the popularity of our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to cage him so that they can see ways to deceive the people for their fake promises during elections.
“Biafra restoration which was ordained and prophesied many years ago by the God Almighty Chukwu Okike Abiama and raised our leader Max Nnamdi Kanu to pilot cannot stop by any man born of a woman. We urge everyone to be resolute because we are nearly to the promise land of Biafra.
“In other words, we want to remind the general public and the press men once again that Dr. Clifford Chukwuemeka Iroanya and Barr Emma Mmezu who served IPOB on the capacity as Spokespersons are no more serving IPOB as spokespersons, IPOB have appointed Dr Ikenna Chinaka and Mrs Grace Ukpai as the new spokespersons for IPOB,” the group added.
