Political series
Nowadays, people express their political beliefs through various means, while some it is through music, others it is through art, and some it is through television. Not only are there political series out there, there are also movies that depict the struggle for political power. A writer creates political series to express their beliefs which may bring change to the government, or he creates one to emulate a politician or a period in politics.
Veep:
This series is an American political satire, aired by HBO. Which talks about a former senator, senator Selina Meyer, who accepted the call to be the vice president of the United States, but after accepting the job, she realises that everything she hoped it expected to experience as the VP, the job was nothing like it, but it was everything like what she was warned against. The storyline shows how she and her team struggle to leave their mark while they struggle with juggling their private lives on the side. This series has a lot of positive reviews from critics and it has gotten so many nominations and awards because of how great it is.
House of cards:
This is another political series, which unlike Veep, that talks about how the game of politics is played in a comedic manner, this political thriller, talks about how the thrilling game of politics is played with themes of ruthless, pragmatism, manipulation, betrayal and power. This series was formerly released early 1991,based on the novel of the same name, written by Michael Dobbs, but was later recreated by Netflix in 2013. It talks about a democrat and his equally ambitious and conniving wife, Frank and Claire Underwood, who stop at nothing to exact revenge on those who betrayed him on his way up the ladder. This series got a lot of nominations and won it’s share of awards, and according to critics, it is one of the best political series to be aired.
Madam secretary:
This is another political drama, produced by CBS, which talks about the life of a former CIA analyst and political science professor turned secretary of state, and it shows us how she tries to balance her life at work with family. This series too has bagged quite a few awards and nominations, and some positive reviews also. And turns out that Hilary Clinton is also an avid viewer of the show as she was also a secretary of the state.
Designated survivor:
This political and conspiracy thriller, talks about how a low level cabinet member, on the verge of being demoted, becomes the president of the United States in just one night. Tom Kirkman becomes the President after an explosion kills everyone ahead of him in the presidential line of successions nd the president himself, Kirkman deals with his lack of experience and also looking to uncover the truth behind the attack. All the while struggling to keep the country and his family from falling apart. This series was previously aired or owned by ABC for the first two seasons but was later taken over by Netflix for the final third season.
Home land:
Still one of the best political series I have watched, as this series will sure keep you at the edge of your seats. Going on for 8 seasons straight, you would know that this series is the real deal. It raked so many nominations and went home with lots of awards, this political series is the best one yet, suspense straight from the first episode to the last episode, Alex Gansa did a great work, aired by showtime, produced by Fox 21, this 8 seasoned political and espionage thriller talks about a bipolar CIA analyst (Claire Danes) , who was told about an American who was turned by al-Qadea and hence poses as a threat to the United States, and at the same time, a US Marine Corps Scout sniper who was held captive by the al-Qadea as a prisoner of war was rescued, to people of the US, he is a hero but to Claire, he is a threat to the United States, and she goes out of her way and to any length to prove it. This series is based on the Israeli series, Prisoners of war.
