Bling Lagosians:
I am not a big fan of Nigerian movies because of their story lines and contents, but this lock down period I have been trying new things and widening my scope, in the movie aspect most especially.
So people recommended that I watched Bling Lagosians, I downloaded the movie, but it took me days before I could sit down fully to concentrate on the movie and when I finally did, I did not regret it. It is very interesting movie, and very different from what you would’ve on a normal day.
The movie basically talks about a matriarch that is bent on having a lavish 51st birthday, despite the fact that her husband is on the verge of bankruptcy, and the exposure of the fact that her family is in debt, threatens their family business and legacy.
The reviews about this movie is great as I was not only the one that seemed to enjoy the movie. Not only did the movie have great reviews, but it has also raked a sum of #120million since its release in June 2019.
The movie starring big stars like Ayoola Ayolola, Alexx Ekubo, Sharon Ooja, Toyin Abraham, Jide Kosoko, Bunmi Aboderin, Gbenga Titiloye and many more.
For those who are still yet to watch it, I recommend you do so.
Your Excellency: I happened to watch this at the cinema because of a work project I had to complete. As I had said before in a previous article, The movie was interesting no doubt, but it was not so good as I thought it ought to be, it all depends on what you’re looking for in a movie though, if it is comic relief, his movie had it, but in depth plot or story line, this movie lacked it.
Though it gained many positive reviews from the media, and it was even a success for me, seeing that it is Funke Akindele’s first time of directing a movie, but I felt she could have done better.
The story basically talks about the life of various characters in the movie, with the the life of the Politician Chief Ajadi in the spotlight. It talks about how Chief Ajadi had previously failed to become the President and in his last trial after joining a minority party who wanted to use him for his money, he finally won the public over, and won the election.
This movie was ranked the 4th highest grossing Nigerian movie of 2019 gaining a total of #186.3million upon its release in the box office since the 13th of December 2019. The movie stars Akin Lewis, Funke Akindele, Kunle Coker, Alexx Ekubo, Osas Ighodaro, Lola Akindiju and many more.
Sugar Rush: Although I was not able to watch this movie when it first came out, I asked those who had already seen it, what they thought about the movie, and there were so many positive reviews about the movie as people had a lot to say about the movie. Well I watched it and I wasn’t disappointed for 5 mins, it’s good to see the humourous side of Adesuwa, The movie became the 5th highest grossing Nigerian movie in 2019 gnawing a total of #287million in the box office since its release in December 2019, the movie did have some problems in the box office upon its release, as the movie was first removed from all cinemas and was not aired for a while, but it was later brought back to the cinemas.
And that did not stop people from watching the movie. The movie is simply about the Sugar Sisters that discover a whopping sum of $800,000, the financial crimes commission and the supposed owners of the money come for them. Now they team up with unlikely allies and it’s a race against the clock to set things right.
And they have a whole load of popular actors such as Omoni Oboli, Toke Makinwa, Tobi Bakare, Bisola Aiyeola, Adesua Etomi Wellington just to mention a few.
I’d actually like to rate it very high because for me the storyline was unique and the acting was top notch as well.
I really hope that after this pandemic is over I would be able to watch it in the cinema. Stay healthy, stay safe.
You did a brilliant job, Ephem.
