There was a palpable tension around Oke-baale area of Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Tuesday, as the corpse of a 400 level student of Osun State University, Oluwafemi Sonibare, was discovered beside an Islamic cleric’s house.
Sonibare, a 400-level student of Microbiology in the school was declared missing on June 26, 2017 after his sudden disappearance from his residence.
The discovery of the student’s corpse created serious tension among the students and residents.
The development sparked protest leading to the destruction of the cleric’s house.
One of the students at the scene, Dolapo Ajayi told our reporter that somebody from the area had alerted the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS), who eventually visited the area.
According to Ajayi, the presence of the security operatives in the area caught the attention of students and other residents of the area, who thronged to the location.
A mosque, located close to the cleric’s residence was also damaged.
Meanwhile, all efforts to get the reaction of police over the incident proved abortive, as calls put through to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Folashade Odoro were not answered.
