Jessa O’Brien, who goes by The Nude Blogger on Instagram, was shocked when her account was “abruptly” deactivated for three weeks.
The body positive beauty has built up a strong following of 59,200 fans thanks to her scantily-clad, and often naked, posts. But she claims she had no warning whatsoever before her social media page was turned off in July for violating their terms.
According to the site’s guidelines, Instagram will not tolerate photos or videos that show “sexual intercourse, genitals and close-ups of fully-nude buttocks” as well as “some photos of female nipples”. The Australian yogi responded by creating a secondary back up Instagram account and staging a topless protest by posting a nude photo alongside a scathing attack.
She said: “F*** you @instagram. “And your double standards. And your blurred guidelines. And your lack of transparency.
“And your unaccountability. And your censorship. And your inconsistent policing. And your dictatorship. “F*** you @instagram. Just so you know, there is a real person behind this account. My name is Jessa.” After starting a “tireless crusade against the social media giants” Jessa’s account has since been reinstated, causing her to post a message of gratitude to Instagram.
Despite her initial outrage, Jessa now thinks that her Instagram ban was “one of the best things to happen” to her and her quest to spread self-love.
She said: “Yes… Thank you @instagram.
“Thank you for making the honourable decision to reinstate my account.” Jessa added: “This reactivation symbolises a stand for body positivity and a step in the right direction toward helping to normalise nudity
“This reactivation signifies a much-needed move toward removing the stigma around non-sexual nudity.
“I am committed to continuing in my efforts to help normalise nudity and promote body positivity and I can only hope that Instagram will act as an ally and not an opponent in my mission.”
