La Casa de Papel:
This TV series popularly known as Money Heist, is still my favourite Spanish series so far. I know for some if not most of us, Money Heist was the first Spanish series we watched, for me it was, and ever since then I have been interested in Spanish series.
Money Heist’s first season was released on the 20th of December 2017, where the original film owners agreed to creating only 2 seasons for the series, until Netflix took over the series production for the release of season 3 and 4. The series became widely known and popular last year, where you could hear people playing the popular theme song “Bella ciao”, and after the release of the 3rd season last year, people anticipated the release of the 4th season which dropped this year as promised, despite the Coronavirus pandemic.
If you check anywhere online, this series has a lot of great reviews as not only is it rare for you to find heist series, but it is also rare for you to find one this good. I was a bit skeptical about the series after the 1st episode, but after watching the 2nd episode, I found myself hooked till I got to the end of season 1 and I just had to applaud the producers and composers of this series because they did a wonderful job!
After so many speculations and theories before the 4th season, the 4th season was finally released, I didn’t watch it immediately after its release because I wanted to savour the 8 episodes completely, but upon watching it, I was a bit dissapointed, not that it was not good, it was, but it was not good enough, because I felt they should have done better, the flashbacks to Berlin’s marriage seemed a bit too much if you ask me, and I felt something was missing, what I found in season 1 to 3, I did not find in season 4, though I can not point out what it was but I felt the producers missed something.
Yes, the Professor did not disappoint us with his calculative and creative thinking, he sure is a mastermind when it comes to heists and Inspector Sierra was amazing yet again, I guess we are all anticipating season 5, as there has to be a season 5. I do hope that they make it better than season 4. Wait… I hope I am not the only one that thinks Inspector Sierra is Berlin’s wife, because why else would they be doing flashbacks to Berlin’s wedding? Anyway, fingers crossed till next year!
And for those of you who still has not seen Money heist, what are you still waiting for?! With everyone at home this lock down period, no one has any excuse as to why they have not seen this beautiful series yet. I assure you, this is one of the best series you would ever watch.
Elite:
After falling in love with Money Heist, I decided to give Spanish series a try, and Elite happened to be the next Spanish series I watched. Owned by Netflix, no surprise as it was recommended by them, after seeing the recommendation, I decided to give it a try, after all there was nothing for me to lose.
The series Elite is all about three working class friends—Samuel, Nadia and Christian who are offered scholarships to Las Encinas, the most exclusive private school in Spain, after their previous school collapses.
I watched the first episode with my fingers crossed, hoping it was as good as they said it was. And I realised that after the first episode, I found myself watching the second, and before I knew it, I was done with season 1. I abandoned the previous series I was watching so I could finish watching it on time, that’s just how good it is.
Each season contained just 8 episodes each, which I thought was great because for a series of that kind, I didn’t think it was necessary to prolong the storyline, which paid off because it has so many good reviews online. The first season was released on the 8th of October 2018 and it’s third and hopefully not the final season released early March 2020, and with the way things ended, I sure hope that the third season would not be it’s last season.
Right from the first season to the third season, I was impressed with the storyline because not all series are capable of maintaining its credibility for that long, especially when the storyline is written around lives of high schoolers. For those who are yet to watch it, you have all the time to do so especially in this quarantine period, and for you Money Heist lovers, Denver and Rio happen to be part of the cast in this series!
This series will sure keep you at the edge of your seats.
Locked Up:
This is yet another Spanish series, and I’m impressed because I did not expect Spanish series to be this good. Unlike Money heist and Elite, which are Netflix owned, Locked up which was first owned by Antenna 3, later became a Fox Spain production.
Locked up, also known as Vis a Vis which means (face to face), is another great Spanish series. I was not too eager to watch it when I read the story line, but it was a different case when I watched the first three episodes. It is basically about a lady who was framed by her boyfriend and was sent to prison for seven years, the lady (Macarena) is given a hard time in prison and her family go to dangerous lengths to get her bail money (1 million euros).
For those of you who applauded the creators of Money Heist, I would like you to know that one of the creators Alex Pina, also created this one, just that Locked Up aired before Money Heist. I am not yet done with the series though, out of 4 seasons, I happen to be in the third one and so far it has been great to watch.
The actors are amazing, as it is quite hard to pull off a daily prison life off, and the storyline too has been great, I certainly am not tired of the series yet. For we money heist lovers, Inspector Sierra makes her way into the cast-list as one of the lead actors – Zulema zahir, and that woman is sure a great actress, and to those heart broken Nairobi fans, Nairobi is also present in this one as one of the lead actors as she portrays Saray Vargas.
Just like I said about Elite and money heist, if you’re yet to watch this series, there’s nothing that is delaying you as we are all under lock down in this quarantine period. Stay safe
