About 4,500 anticipated statutory and special delegates who are expected to vote to select who flies the gubernatorial flag of the APC are in palpable fear over an alleged plan to manipulate the list.
The delegates, according to Chief Damian Muo-Udevi from Anambra West council area of the state were mandated to swear to an oath by one of the governorship aspirants to the seat of the governor.
The visibly angry Muo-Udevi, who claimed to be among the delegates approached, spoke with select journalists at Nzam, Anambra West council area yesterday. He wondered why a political party like the APC will allow the troublesome politicians come in with so much air and at same time overturn everything they met in the party.
“They have been going round all the 21 councils of the state with bags of money since weekend luring and manipulating delegates to swear to a multiple deity that they will vote for them,” he said. Asked if he can give the clear identity of the aspirant he alleged is working to manipulate the delegate list, he said, “the politician has always been in the corridors of power but has remained unacceptable to the people of the state because of lack of single project that has affected the people of the state.
“It’s clear he has nothing to offer to the people, he has never validly contested any election in his life, instead he always uses tonnes of cash to mesmerize and circumvent laid down rules and processes that is clearly the reason he has been going around now dumping cartons of cash on the laps and doorsteps of all those he feels will be relevant in the August 19, 2017 governorship primary where the party will elect its standard bearer in the November 18, 2017 election in Anambra State.”
When the state chairman of the party, Mr Emeka Ibe, was contacted for reaction, he said he was not aware of any such incident. He, however, urged the members to report anyone coercing them surreptitiously to the party for instant disciplinary action.
