One thing that is for sure is that the Korean movie industry has always had a lot of viewers right from start, even from those days where we couldn’t download the dramas on our phones, where we resorted to buying CDs from the Igbo guys who often sold CDs back then for #150.
Now where technology has made everything easier for us, we can now download Korean dramas on our mobile devices, their viewers have now increased and this has also made Korean dramas evolve over time.
From the usual romance genre that Korean dramas are familiar with to other genres like melodrama, horror, suspense and the likes.
Which has increased the number of people who watch Korean dramas and this was what even encouraged popular American streaming site, Netflix to start investing in their dramas.
The Netflix produced k-dramas are definitely on a different level from the normal ones, as with Netflix, there is no holding back, in terms of the action and also the production.
As a situation where in an average Korean drama, you hardly see the characters smoking, or you see them blurring the sight of blood and weapons such as knives and the likes (due to their culture), you don’t see all of that in the Netflix produced K-dramas, as they show you everything and even more. The reason for all of my story is basically the new k-drama that I watched, Squid game.
I had not even watched the trailer of the drama before I decided to give it a try, someone recommended the drama for me and told me that it was worth it, I checked the ratings online and I was shocked when I saw Rotten Tomatoes giving it a 100% ratings and IMDb giving it an 8.3 out of 10.
That is like the highest ratings I have seen for any Korean drama online.I proceeded to watch it, and trust me, now I know why the drama had such high ratings, everything about the drama is just right, and I give kudos to Netflix, the directors and the script writers for doing this much.
The k-drama, Squid game is a South Korean survival drama written and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk. The drama just has 9 episodes to its name and it stars the likes of Lee Jung Jae, Park Hae Soo, Wi Ha Joon and many more.
The drama tells the story of a group of people who risk their lives in a mysterious survival game with a sum of $38.9 million as cash prize. The drama was released on the 17th of September by Netflix.
The drama just talks about how 456 people who have all struggled financially in life are invited to play mysterious survival competitions, competing in a series of traditional children’s games but with a lot of deadly twists, as they risk their lives to compete for the $38.5 million.
The drama sure had a lot of plot twists and unpredictable storyline, but my only problem with the movie was the ending, because I felt they could do better with the ending.
Not that the ending was not good or anything, just that when the other episodes are getting a 100% from episodes 1-8, and you get to the final episode that you might be expecting a 101% or even a 100%, but what you just end up getting is a 60%I felt the writers could do more with the ending, but that doesn’t really matter as episodes 1 to 8 gave us more than enough to worry about the final episode.
