When it comes to action movies, we get to realise that there is a lot more that people wish to see other than the usual revenge plot.
At some point in time, it was enjoyable, watching these movies that base their plots on revenge, but over time, you get bored of watching the same old plot. This is the same reason why several critics condemned the latest action movie released, The Protégé.
With the cast alone, you would expect that the movie would bring so much to the table in terms of action and storyline, but when you watch it, you’d realise that the cast of a movie doesn’t make the movie.
The Protégé is a 2021 American action thriller film, directed by Martin Campbell, which stars Michael Keaton, Maggie Q, Samuel L Jackson, Patrick Malahide, David Rinfoul, Ori Pfeffer, Ray Fearson, Robert Patrick and many others.
The movie was released on the 20th of August 2021, and despite its packed cast list, the movie just grossed $8 million in the box office.
Those who are yet to watch it might be wondering how the movie didn’t do so well in the box office despite its cast, well that is because asides from the fact that there was nothing new or different about the storyline, the plot of the movie just felt basically empty.
As many critics complained that the casts were not used to their fullest potential. The one thing that really put me off the most was even the ending, I felt like the writer or rather the producer did not know what to do again with the cast, and he had to look for a way to at least put the movie to bed.
I thought the movie was going to be great, because when you have the likes of Maggie Q, Samuel L Jackson and Michael Keaton starring in a movie, the movie deserves to be great, but that was just a bait to make people watch the movie.
