Pen warrior: Olagunju Oluwaponmile

As a Nigerian and as a student making strenuous efffort to get my degree just to increase my chances of getting job, enhance my chances of getting more opportunities to be successful, trying every humanly possible to make my parents and society proud by acquiring my best results in my degree. But why must we pass through the same route?

Although education is always the key as they used to say and which I also concur to the statement, but I want you to take a look at people that stand at the top of the list of world most richest today, they didn’t pass through any formal school before they acquire their wealth that they have today. Don’t get me wrong that, is not good to go to school and study Anatomy, mathematics, computer science or any other courses as the case may be. But those people broke the conventional rule that *you can’t succeed without going to school.*

When they say education is the key, is school the lock? School is teaching us how to abide by the rules, Because as long as you follow the rules and pass exams, it means you are cool. But are you aware that examiners have a checklist,

And if your answer is something outside the box then the automatic response is a cross, And then they claim that school expands your horizons and your visions.

Students are subjected to memorizing equations, facts, laws and hypothesis, of which some of them would be forgotten and many of it would never be remembered after exam. Before the start of the next semester, ask anyone if they had notes for the last lecture on which few can provide that.

Now, I’m not saying that school is evil and there’s nothing to gain, all I’m saying is: understand your motives and re-assess your aims, There’s a saying that says: if you don’t build your dreams, someone else will hire you to help build theirs. Redefine how you view education, understand its true meaning, education is not just about regurgitating facts from a book, or someone else’s opinion on a subject to pass an exam. You just need to think outside the box, break some rules and set new ones, show people that education is nothing but to inspire what is already in you. You have everything you need and use them without limit.
