Chelsea is one team that has had a wild transfer window. The football club came under scrutiny when the former owner, Abrahimovich was sanctioned by the UK government for allegedly sponsoring the Russian government in their war with Ukraine.
The club who was unable to sign players for a while was finally given the opportunity when there was a new takeover, as we saw the club welcome a new administration and owner, Todd Boehly.
Fans were a bit skeptical as to how the club’s transfer window would be, as they were uncertain if the new owner would be willing to sign new players including the expensive ones.
When the new owners bought the club, it was evident that they had plans to buy better players, however, this transfer window has not been so easy for them, where we have seen quite a lot of players get hijacked before the club could even sign them.
Chelsea after the takeover were quick to sign players, where we saw various transfer news outlets come on to list the various players that the club had eyes on. We heard names like Raphinha, Kounde, Sterling amongst others.
The club had difficulties in this transfer window, where we saw two major players that they were interested in get hijacked from them, as we saw the Spanish giants, Barcelona, swoop in to sign Raphinha and Kounde ahead of the London club.
And this sparked a lot of reactions from fans, as many were surprised that on both occasions, Chelsea had agreed with the clubs to sign the players, however Barca went ahead to agree the personal terms and picked up the players ahead of Chelsea.
The Cucurella transfer was one that had many fans on edge, where after seeing players pick other clubs over them, fans thought that it would be the case for the spaniard, but Chelsea was able to complete the deal a few hours before the start of the league.
