Burna boy just seems to be soaring higher and higher these days, it was just like yesterday when the superstar, dropped his first single, Like to Party, that got everyone talking, and since then he has been steadily releasing hit singles, like Pree Me, Soke, Gbona, Streets of Africa and many more.
He has been getting international recognition as he even got nominated for the prestigious award, Grammys, and he has also been getting international collaborations too, as he has been featured by Stormzy and Sam Smith.
And his latest album, Twice as tall, just does it for most of us really. The artist released his fifth studio album last month, and it still has people talking, as the album even topped Billboard.
The album showed different sides of burna boy, from Wonderful, the lead single, to Monsters You Made, back to Way Too Big. He also got to feature international acts, like Naughty by Nature, Chris Martin, Stormzy, Sauti Sol and Youssou N’ Dour on the album and Diddy Dirty Money happened to work on the album with him.
The 15 tracks album is filled with hits as the songs definitely had Burna Boy written all over them, and has received positive reviews world wide.
I was not too excited to listen to the album, as I even wrote the album off, till I heard
Monsters You Made.
On the Monsters You Made: he featured Chris Martin; and I fell in love with the song, the song talks about how we have still not broken free from the chains of colonialism, and how he hopes for a revolution, it also features a voice over at the end from Ama Ata Adioo, who made a speech about us still being tied down by our colonial masters.
From there I was just hooked as that is even my favorite song off the album, then I heard
Way Too Big.
Way Too Big: The song is basically talking about how he is no longer on any one’s level in the Nigerian industry, and truly the star has risen to fame as then he could not really be compared to wizkid or Davido, but now people compare him to them, some even feel he is better than the two of them as he even bagged a Grammy nomination last year.
And from there I just had to listen to the whole album, and I happened to find 23,
23; the song talks about his life as an artist, how making music takes him to another level and how he does not fear anyone and that he would keep defending himself. Which is also another beautiful song off the album.
Then we have Wonderful, we all heard this song before the release of his album, as it was the lead single off the album, and it talks basically about home, as it even gives the African vibes, from the beat down to the video. It is a really catchy tune.
Burna definitely finished work on this album. He has proven to be another artist on the same level as Davido and Wizkid, and can be compared to any of them.
