Bukayo Saka scored Arsenal’s 2,000th Premier League goal at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon to secure three points away from home.
The 20-year-old’s moment of brilliance gave the Gunners a 1-0 lead against Aston Villa in their pursuit for Champions League football.
Manager Mikel Arteta was without first-choice goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale for the game after he picked up a knock in training and was replaced by second choice Bernd Leno, a sick Gabriel Martinelli was also replaced by Emile Smith Rowe.
Arsenal were in control in the first half, crowning the dominant display with a deftly executed shot by Bukayo Saka from outside the box.
The second half started in the different fashion, seeing Aston villa make more goal scoring threat but were not able to grab at least one to keep them in the game.
Arsenal are just the third team to reach 2,000 goals since the Premier League’s inception in 1992. Manchester United have scored the most in the competition’s history – 2,176 – while Liverpool (2,002) broke the 2,000 barrier against Brighton earlier this month.
The win puts Arsenal four points ahead of Manchester United with a game in hand.
