Don’t check your watch, you know what time it is. It is Cole World.
It was a busy Friday the 14th for Hip hop lovers as we had three albums. “The Off Season” by J. Cole, “Spiral” by 21 Savage and “Beam Me Up Scotty” by Nicki Minaj.
I tried my best selecting the album to go with first and “The Off Season” was the album selected by the gods. I listened to the album over the weekend and we all are glad J. Cole brought the real Hip-hop back to our ears since his last album K.O.D. Unlike the usual J. Cole album with no features, he had 21 Savage, Morray, Bas, 6lack and Lil Baby on “The Off Season”.
I’ll start with the track He featured 21 Savage on which is titled “My Life”. The track is the whole “A Lot” vibe all over again. Talking about life in the street coupled with an awesome voice on the hook from Morray, I really enjoyed the track and it was easily my favorite on the album for now. Moving to the first track i listened to on the album “95 South”, J. Cole flexed on the track about his G.O.A.T status, what He has achieved, staying true to your work and not making yourself the joke.
With already release “Interlude” making itself known and creative massive ways towards the release of the album, I moved on to “Pride Is The Devil”. He featured Lil Baby on this track and I’m really happy with Lil Baby’s pen game on the track. He made it known He can also be a good rapper, it is not only about the melody and mumble rap.
J. Cole went hard on this album, His maturity in the rap scene was obvious while He addressed issues with other rappers and conscious topics. “The Climb Back”, “Punching The Clock”, “Close”, “Hunger On Hillside”, “Applying Pressure” are other tracks I will be recommending on the album.
Overall, I will be giving the album an 8/10 rating. You can listen to the album below:
