Manchester United forward Alexis Sanchez limped off with an apparent hamstring injury during Chile’s Copa America defeat to Argentina on Saturday night.
Sanchez pulled up while chasing a long ball 17 minutes into the third-place play-off match, which Chile went on to lose 2-1.
It could delay the 30-year-old’s return to United for pre-season and represents another injury setback for a player who was sidelines for big chunks of last season.
Sanchez, who scored twice for Chile during the Copa America, will not be a part of the first leg of United’s pre-season tour in Australia.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his squad will fly from Manchester to Perth on Sunday ahead of two matches in the city against Perth Glory and Leeds United.
Sanchez was set to be given time off after the Copa America and not feature on United’s pre-season tour, which continues to Singapore and Shanghai after Australia.
Sanchez, who scored just two goals in 27 appearances for United last season, suffered a number of injuries in 2018-19 and missed 20 matches.
A hamstring injury saw him miss the whole of December, he missed a fortnight with a thigh problem in January and then over five weeks with a knee injury in March and April before an ankle issue curtailed his season in May.
Chile lost a fiery match 2-1 despite Argentina captain Lionel Messi being sent off. United kick-off their Premier League campaign with a home fixture against Chelsea on August 11.
