After going a goal up courtesy of a Cristiano Ronaldo volley (his first touch of the match) on 13 minutes, United lost a man, lost the lead and finally lost the match.

Just after the half hour mark Aaron Wan-Bissaka was shown a straight red for a poorly timed challenge on a Young Boys player, and Man United suffered since then.

Young Boys took control but didn’t look like they’d hit the target if they kept shooting for a month.

That changed in the second half as Moumi Ngamaleu poked home the equaliser on 66 minutes from a low and bouncing cross.

Then, in calamitous fashion, Jesse Lingard’s weak back pass was snaffled by Theoson Siebatcheu who dinked David de Gea to hand the Swiss champions a famous and deserved win.
